2017 HIPPY Graduation!!

Pictured are community constables Lou Unkovich and Mandi Bell making presentations to the HIPPY families at last years’ graduation.

At 6pm on Friday 1st December the annual HIPPY (Home Interaction Programme for Parents and Youngsters) graduation was held in the Parakai School Hall. Principal Nick Neubert presented the HIPPY children and their parents with certificates and gifts acknowledging the work done over the year by the HIPPY families. Coordinator Bernie Malizia thanked Mr Neubert for the support that the Parakai School has given the HIPPY programme since it became based there in 2011.
Parakai School teacher Jackie Silby loves getting HIPPY children in her new entrant class. She has been a supporter of the programme since 2005 when she noticed that her ‘HIPPY kids’ stood out in the classroom as being switched on to learning.
HIPPY kids work with their parents on the programme for two years. Parents find that by regularly spending quality time working with their children on the fun HIPPY activities they not only prepare their child for school, but also develop a great parent/child relationship, which lasts for many years.
If you have a child aged between 3 ½ and 4 ½ and would like to know more about this great programme for families in our community phone coordinator Bernie Malizia on 021 0220 6017.
