Big ups for our first Arts in d’Ville

Despite Saturday’s rain there was a good turnout at Labour Weekend’s Arts in d’Villeas locals and out-of-towners enjoyed the informality and “energetic vibe” of what was on offer.
Options included pop up galleries (generously donated by the landlords) and six open studios where people could talk to artists about their practice and watch them work. Artists included knitters, spinners, carvers, potters and painters, a hat maker and a stitcher.
There were several art exhibitions, including one held in Helensville’s brand new Art Centre, which were well attended and generated a lot of interest.
Many thanks to organisers Kura Geere-Watson, Jo Dixey and Denise Marshall who staged this excellent community event on a zero budget. Planning for next year’s festival is already underway, with the organisers reporting many offers of help and suggestions for other activities in the 2016 event.
