Activities of the Helensville Floral Art Group

The Title for May was ‘All Foliage Traditional Design’
Our regular Club meeting was held on Thursday May 16th at 10am. We had ten members attend and a visitor who is interested in joining us.
The workshop was organised by the Hostesses’ of the day Jenny Place and Lyn Rowland.
Sharon Benton, from Hibiscus Coast Floral Art Club was the workshop leader. It was teaching the basics of a Traditional Symmetrical Design.
The aim was to complete an All Foliage design, focusing on the characteristics of a Traditional style of design. Including the Principal of Design, which is Balance and Symmetrical Balance.
The plant material was gathered mostly from all our own gardens.
Line – straight tall stems ie Rosemary, Bay, Deities, Flax or similar, Base leaves – Geranium, Heuchera, Fatshedera, Transitional – Pittosporum, Fern, Manuka, Corokia or similar, Focal- Succulent, Euphorbia, Hydrangea leaves, Leucadendron, Heuchera or other significant foliage or round or volumetric form as a feature
With Sharon’s expertise and help, all members created amazing designs and each one different. A very interesting and satisfying workshop.
