Every year Art Centre Helensville holds two exhibitions where Art Kaipara members exhibit without charge. While this is not a competition, visitors to the exhibition vote for their favourite work. The winner of the people’s choice for the year’s first member exhibition in May 2021 was Leda Daniel, whose mixed media work Wings of Freedom won her the People’s Choice Award, recognised by the presentation of a bottle of wine and a certificate. Other popular choices were Mike Rowland’s North Piha, Annabel Brechelt’s Barn Owl and Barbara Carter’s Old Lady.
Following the successful Being and Becoming art therapy-inspired exhibition, which showcased the work of Leesa Minton-Skirrow, Linda Stevenson and Janet McLeod, is the Festival of Photography, which is open to all contributors. The theme of the exhibition is Synthesis: the combination of elements to form a connected whole. The exhibition’s opening event will be held at Art Centre Helensville on Friday 4th June from. If you wish to exhibit work at the exhibition, please bring it in on Wednesday 2ndor Thurs 3rd June. The fee for entry is $5 per photo.
Workshops/classes in Term 2 will be run on Wednesday mornings by Raranga Whariki, 1, 9 and 16 June and a pottery class will be held on 23 June. A Kaipara College Special Needs Art class will be held on Thursday morning, 24 June.
