News about the May 2018 uncovering of the Daring, shipwrecked in 1865 at the mouth of the Kaipara Harbour, has travelled. In the Summer 2018 issue of Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga the cover story, titled ‘The Sands of Time’ and written by Naomi Arnold, is a comprehensive, well researched article that will be of interest to many locals. As well as covering the story of the shipwreck, the article talks about the wider issue of how we can preserve our maritime heritage, including by using digital technology to record site information for future researchers to investigate. The article was written before the Daring was removed to Hobsonville for restoration.
