Well, we’re gearing up for another awesome year of our summer reading programme: Kia Mâia te Whai Dare to Explore.
This year, we’re off voyaging! Where will our explorers’ journeys take them?
Children between the ages of 5 and 14 can register from 26 November. The programme begins on 10 December.
We have events planned for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 10.30am – all tied in with programme challenges. Events calendars will be available as part of the registration process.
On Friday 28 December, from 5pm until 6pm, we will be having a Pyjama Party! Explorers and their families are invited to wear their pyjamas, make reading forts (bring-your-own sheets / boxes) and share favourite stories. We’re hoping the children will be able to mark off quite a few challenges that night.
As well as the fun events and activities around Kia Mâia te Whai Dare to Explore, Santa will be in the house! He has a busy day planned. He will be visiting Parakai Kindergarten early in the morning, then off to Craigweil House, a visit to Sunny Days in the afternoon, before ending the day at Helensville Library.
Santa Storytime at the Library will be at 3pm, with the chance to have your photos taken with Santa after storytime.
The sad news is, we will be having a break from our regular preschool sessions over December and January, with the last session on Thursday 6 December. Sessions will restart in February. We will be looking at the timing and days of our sessions, based on attendance numbers this year. And we’ll be looking at how we can make the sessions even better for all of us, both staff and attendees. We are very interested in hearing your feedback about our preschool sessions.
Christmas and New Year hours: Helensville Library will be closed just for the statutory holidays, and open regular hours otherwise (9.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday; 9.30am to 4pm Saturdays). We will be closed on:
• Tuesday 25 December (Christmas Day)
• Wednesday 26 December (Boxing Day)
• Tuesday 1 January (New Year’s Day)
• Wednesday 2 January (Day after New Year’s Day)
Extended loan periods:
• From 24 November all 28 day loans become 42 day loans
• From 8 December all 14 day loans become 28 day loans
• From 5 January all 28 day loans go back to normal
• From 12 January all 14 day loans go back to normal
