SUMMARY:ARTS in the VILLE 2022
DESCRIPTION:Now in it’s 8th year! ARTS in the VILLE is an annual festival and art trail held over Labour Weekend that celebrates the many local artists in the area. Come and take advantage of this great opportunity to view\, discuss and purchase art pieces from a huge range of artists across many different venues. These include open studios\, venues and other pop-up spaces which will be marked clearly\, and can be found on the map provided from this website as a download\, or on-site in Helensville during the festival weekend.  From 10 – 4pm each day (Saturday\, Sunday and Monday)\, Helensville will be buzzing with visitors taking advantage of the vibrant display of art. Join in and you’ll experience a variety of media from sculpture\, embroidery\, painting\, pottery\, ceramic\, etchings\, glasswork\, millinery\, repurposed mixed media and engineered creations\, for both your indoor and outdoor spaces. In many cases you will have the opportunity to meet the artist in their studio\, discuss pieces with them\, and sometimes see them at work. Most pieces will be for sale (see FAQs page for more info). \nThe Visual Treasure Hunt is a highlight of the long weekend\, with a stunning prize donated by well-respected\, New Zealand sculptor Jeff Thomson\, whose studio is located in the heart of Helensville.

SUMMARY:Historic Kaukapakapa Library
DESCRIPTION:In the late 1880’s the Kaukapakapa community needed a larger public hall\, there being prior to this a combined school/library/hall building.  Contention arose as to its location as the village had developed in two distinct portions - north and south Kaukapakapa.  A compromise was reached and in 1890 a new hall was built on land donated by the Henley family\, midway between the two areas.  The bad news being this was extremely flood prone.  Many years and many floods later\, the Hall had fallen into disrepair and come to the attention of the Rodney Council\, which recommended its closure.  Once again the community rallied\, and twenty years ago in 1999\, both the hall and the library crossed the road to their present position at the heart of Kaukapakapa.  It’s now five years since the library was reopened in conjunction with the Kaukapakapa Village Market\, every third Sunday of the month.  Come along and find out more about the history of the hall\, the library and all things Kaukapakapa. A gold coin donation has been the norm for those attending in the past. That will continue\, but those who can contribute more generously\, please do. Funding comes from within our community\, including Helensville Lions and South Kaipara Rotary\, and relies on the generosity of many individuals and businesses.\nDonations of food will be appreciated\, either food to be cooked\, or prepared food brought along on the day. Prepared gluten free\, vegetarian\, vegan or other special diet dishes will be especially valued. Please register proposed contributions of food at CAB\, 27 Commercial Rd\, phone 420 7162.\nIf you wish to attend and enjoy the party\, please RSVP at Library/Council Service Centre\, CAB\, Helensville Women & Family Centre\, South Kaipara Men & Family\, Nga Maunga Whakahii/Heartlands (16 Commercial Rd) St Johns Op Shop\, Te Ha Oranga\, WINZ or Budget Advisory Service.\nVolunteers are essential for the success of the day. Please donate a gift with a label stating boy or girl and age group. Suggest $10 to $15 value. Gifts may be left at Library or Council Service Centre. From 3rd December\, Christmas Parade day\, there will be a Christmas tree in the Library entrance\, with an empty box that gifts may be left in as well.
