It is a busy time of year for us, so here are some tips to help keep you safe.
Let someone responsible know where you are going, when to expect you back and, when to call the police if you are overdue. Tell that responsible person details like the number of people on board, your boat name, type, colour and a radio call sign. Remember to take two forms of communication that is waterproof or in a waterproof bag. Each person needs to have a life jacket on.
Our crew have been busy in the water training hard. We train every Tuesday night from 7pm to increase our skill level. When training on the water we make scenarios as real as possible so we understand what we need to do when a real emergency situation is unfolding.
We are busy making plans and fundraising for our new Coastguard building. This new building will comfortably fit our boats, equipment and give us a training room. The new building will also be near the water at the end of Springs Road in Parakai.
