Kaipara korero – From Kaipara College Principal’s Desk:

Principal Cindy Sullivan

Schools play a crucial role in developing the character and values of their students. Having explicit values helps us create a positive learning environment while instilling essential life skills and ethical principles in our students. By promoting values such as honesty, integrity, respect, empathy, and responsibility, we contribute to the moral and ethical development of our students, helping them become responsible and compassionate members of society.

Clearly defined values create a positive school climate that promotes inclusivity, respect, and a sense of belonging for all students and staff.

Schools have a responsibility to educate the whole person, beyond academic knowledge. Values help our students develop character traits, such as resilience, leadership, and critical thinking, that are essential for navigating challenges, making ethical decisions, and contributing positively to their communities. By promoting values like social justice, environmental stewardship, and community service, we inspire students to become responsible citizens who are aware of their roles and responsibilities in society.

Because of the importance of values at school, Kaipara College recently developed the following set of enduring, strong values which will serve as a compass, guiding students in their personal growth, character development, and ethical decision-making. This will contribute to the overall well-being of our students and the creation of a positive and inclusive learning environment. It will also enable the students of Kaipara College to take their place as curious, connected, contributing citizens in their community, Aotearoa New Zealand, and the world Kaipara College School Values: Te WAKA o Kaipara
