This week we farewell our school librarian, who has been part of our school staff for 19 years. At an assembly today two of our Year 8 students, Peyton Drew and Jessica Cameron (who have worked with Mrs Fotheringham as student librarians for many years), presented her with cards and flowers and the following words. ”Mrs Fotheringhame,
We have been asked to say thank you to you on behalf of the school for all the work and friendship you have given to our school.
Miss Armstrong said it is good to start a speech with a joke... We thought all her ideas were???? But to humour her we thought we’d let you be the judge. What is the tallest building in the world? The library, because it has the most stories. What section of the library can you get bitten by a snake? Hissssssstory.
What did the librarian say to the astronaut? Find space for a book You get the idea. We wanted to thank you for the time you have given us over our years at Kaukapakapa. You have made the library one of our most favourite places in the school. You have helped grow our love of books and for that we are grateful.
We know you have done this for every child that has passed through Kaukapakapa School, and we know that without you that beautiful library over there, the envy of many a school, would not be the amazing place it is. So thank you. Mrs Fotheringhame,
They say old librarian never die, they just get re-shelved.
Enjoy your re-shelving.”
