The Christmas Book Fair held last weekend raised $8,342 an increase on last year, and only slightly less than the one held in May. Together with the raffle and sausage sizzle we made over $9,000 for the weekend, an excellent result. We trust that our customers are pleased with their books and have many hours of enjoyable reading.
Thank you to all those who donated books, without your contributions there would be no Book Fair.
The Club would also like to thank the Helensville community, putting together a book fair of this size is a huge task and would not be possible without the assistance we receive from you all. We especially appreciated the help we received from the students of Kaipara College, whose young arms made the job of unloading the more than 600 banana boxes on Friday afternoon a lot easier, and importantly the partners, friends and relatives of Club members who were present helping throughout the weekend. We also wish to thank members of the Rodney Local Board for their help, and the Kaipara Men’s Trust for providing us with storage. Finally we must thank Copy & Print for having let us use their shop as the drop off point for many years, unfortunately they have moved to Huapai but fortunately for us Burmester Realty have offered to become the drop off point in Helensville for smaller lots.
All the funds raised will go into the Lions Club of Helensville Charitable Trust Account and will be used in our community to assist those members or organisations in need of support, as well as into community projects such as the Riverside Walkway and the exercise stations on the nearly completed Rautawhiri Park Fitness Track.
The books left over are re-sorted with damaged or unsaleable books going to the Helensville Recycle Centre. Other books are sold at the Lions book stall at the Kaukapakapa Market, which is held on the third Sunday of each month, and at other events run by the Lions Club of Helensville throughout the year.
The next Book Fair is our Autumn Book Fair, which will be held on the last weekend of May 2019,in the Helensville War Memorial Hall. As a service to the community the Helensville Lions will accept books throughout the year. Small amounts can be left at Burmester Realty’s office, Commercial Road, Helensville, otherwise contact Chris at 09 420 8527 or any other member of the Lions Club of Helensville.
