Local history resource Kaukapakapa Library

Sunday July 17th, 9am to 1pm.

Each month the little Kaukapakapa Library opens in conjunction with the Kaukapakapa Village Market and holds events which keep it in use for the community. Over the past seven years there have been authors, photo competitions, readings, colouring competitions and basically anything that might hold appeal to different groups.
Underlying all of the above is the historical value of the library. Started by an early settler in 1865, the library has been in and now out of the public library system. The current building was built in 1911 and has been moved around the immediate vicinity about five times. All the original records for the library are still in existence and more and more local information has come forward over the years.
The collection is a valuable resource for the area, we have everything from the Jordan Collection of old photos, Kaukapakapa School photos, Poland Motor’s Ledgers, cemetery records and everything in between. If you need to know something about the history of the area, come along to the library and find out more.
