Helensville Art Centre Happenings | Disability Expo a Huge Success!
Helensville’s Arts and Activities Programme for adults with learning disabilities, run through Mt Tabor Trust by Pauline Mee, recently used Creative NZ funding to showcase their artistic work at Auckland’s ASB Show Grounds in Green Lane at ‘The Big Event – Health and Disability Expo’.
Despite Mt Tabor being a relatively small service provider – supporting around 30 adults in 6 households and several individual flats – their stand stood out for its colour, flair and fun. With give-away postcards of art, a film of ‘Wiggle & Giggle Disco’, arts activities and community involvement as well as the opportunity to win an original artwork by artist Thomas Hogan simply by writing your email address on ‘Mikie the Moa’ – constructed especially for the event by local artist and film-maker Andrew Denton.
This is the first time this event has been run and it had a huge attendance over the 9th and 10th of March.
Mt Tabor has houses in Helensville, Sandringham and Henderson, including a household for the deaf people. They run a Deaf Day Programme in Henderson and an Arts and Activities Programme in Helensville which draws people along from as far away as Warkworth and caters for around 50 people a week.
