Mihi Waimaria Hill (1953-2018)

This obituary is based on the words of her whanau.

Ko Aorangi temaunga
Ko Moawhangoteawa
Ko Whitikaupekate marae

Tihei Mauri Ora!

Mihi Waimaria Hill (64) was tragically killed in a head on collision on State Highway 16 in Waimauku on the 29 August 2018. Her youngest daughter HikiTeRuhi (33) was also in the accident and died in hospital four days later. The tragic loss of Mihi and Hiki, who died close to where three other whanau died in 2013, has shocked our community.
Mihi was born and educated in Taihape. She moved north and married Te Waru in 1975. She loved the Kaipara, the marae, the whanau and the wider community. She loved to serve and always showed manaakitanga to everyone, something NgâtiWhâtua acknowledged at her tangi.
Mihi loved tamariki and was very supportive of her mokopuna, volunteering her time to Parakai School for many years, supporting the kapa haka roopu. Mihi travelled throughout New Zealand, Australia, Thailand and China.
Mihi was a very loving and caring person who lived a full and happy life, touching the lives of so many. Mihi is at peace now with our mighty creator smiling on us all with her infectious smile.
We will leave you with the final words Mum would always say....Bless you and love you...
