Rodney Local Board update from Mark Dennis

More funding to manage freedom camping this summer.

The council will be better equipped to educate the public on rules around freedom camping this summer, thanks to a funding boost secured through the Ministry of Business, Employment and Innovation’s (MBIE) Freedom Camping Transition Fund.?

Auckland Council successfully secured $256,000 of the government’s nationwide package, which offered $10 million over two years to help councils manage the transition to new freedom camping rules.?

As Shelly beach no longer has a managed campground, this is exactly what we require for our community.

Do we care about Heritage?

The Heritage Counts programme started in 2018. It involves collecting statistics and research on Auckland’s heritage places.

The research aims to raise awareness of the extent and variety of heritage places, and the social and economic benefits they bring. Helensville is a great example of how heritage can help shape a community and how we see ourselves.
