At our Helensville Lions September meeting, we hosted our District Governor, our Zone Chairman and Waimukau Lions Club. It is always fun to host other Clubs but sadly at this meeting we said farewell to Barbara who had been our caterer for 26 years.
We supported the Tinopai Volunteer Emergency Services to assist their fundraising for a building a new shed; the Angel Fund for their YMCA Holiday programme; Te Waka Huia with their production which is going around the North Island; and helped out at the Tennis Clubs Open Day. We packed 700 grocery bags with goodies for those attending the Grocery Charity Ball in aid of diabetes, and donated safety vests to the Helensville Playschool to wear when walking our busy streets.
We are still collecting old/unused spectacles; old NZ and foreign money and will now be collecting unwanted/unused hearing aids – we don’t have official collecting tins yet for the hearing aids, but in the interim put them in with the spectacles. All of these items will be sent to the islands where they will be enormously helpful to those in need.
We are excited to announce that we are starting a new section to our Lions Club, called “Friends of Lions”. It is for those of you willing to lend us a hand with some of our projects but cannot attend regular meetings. We would just give you a ring to see if you can help. Contact any Lion and we will put your name on a register. Thank you.
