February started off with the sad news that our oldest Lion, and possibly the oldest in NZ and indeed the world!, John Old passed away. He was in his 104th year.
We once again helped out at the A&P Show by manning the food kiosk and providing lunches for the judges. We also had a tent to show the public what Lions are all about and what we have achieved in the past years also answering questions and hopefully getting new members.
Our International Vice-President from Iceland, visited us to view our finished Riverside Walkway which is our millenium project for Lions Internationals 100th anniversary.
We gave assistance for the purchase of a second Hospital Shuttle van to go to Waitakere, North Shore, Auckland and Green Lane Hospitals. There will be a small charge for this service and they can be contacted on 09 4260918 or 0800 809342.
One of our Lions, Bronwyn Alexander, has moved south but for the past few years, she has participated in the Great NZ Trek - North to South - to raise funds for research in multiple sclerosis. We have given a donation to the Malaghan Institute in support.
Kaukapakapa Residents Assoc. are raising funds to establish a playground and we have given them a donation to assist their project.
The winner of the Lions Fishing Trip Raffle was Penn Costa from Te Atatu. Thank all who entered.
We look forward to meeting all you new members!
