Kaipara College had several teams reach the finals in this year’s Waka Ama Long Distance Nationals held at the Blue Lakes.
For the second season in a row the Kaipara College Under-19 boys’ crew of six won the blue-ribbon event, Gold in the 250-metre sprint, proving they are still the fastest in their age group in the country. “It was a great achievement, especially as there were over 123 schools competing, making it a true national final,” says coach Israil Foreman. “The final was very exciting, with 1st and
3rd place separated by just half a second. The boys didn’t know they’d won till they got off the water.”
The Under-19 boys combined with the Under-19 girls in the 12-person event, also a 250-metre sprint, to win Silver.
