Manawatia a Matariki! Our Matariki exhibition is on until the 7th of June, this beautiful show is a diverse display of contemporary and traditional methods responding to the annual Maori calendar event celebrating Matariki.
Mike Rolland’s 6 week painting course continues as a consecutive programme. This means you can enrol for 6 weeks, however if you can’t do each week during the dates set, you can roll your time over into his next class. Mike’s next course dates are 3rd July – 7th August. Our next exhibition is festival of photography exhibiting artwork from our Kaipara College students. At the opening we will have music students performing live. This is a great time to come celebrate our young emerging talent! We will also have individual photographers exhibiting for this show, local and abroad. Come join us at the opening event 13th June 5-7pm. Dates for the exhibition are 11th – 28th June.
July we have conceptual artist Milvia Romici exhibiting installation pieces responding to her artist residency in northern Chili where she visited one of the largest fast-fashion waste sites in the Atacama Desert of mountains of discarded clothing. Romici says of this installation “This exhibition combines fabric fragments mostly denim and fast fashion remnants salvaged from the desert and sewn by hand”. Milvia works in fabric.
Don’t forget our FREE art and craft get together group each Wednesday at the Art Centre, run by local Eileen Harper at 11-1. Koha donation is appreciated, complimentary coffee and tea provided.
Book in now for term three afterschool classes! 8 week course 3:30-5pm Tuesday and Thursday for ages 6-11, teen group ‘Movements’ Wednesday ages 12-15. Dates for term three 8 week classes are 22nd July – 11th September.
‘Our annual AGM will be held at the Art Centre Saturday June 28th 2pm, light refreshments provided.’
