While the centre is still in lockdown, and will remain so until further notice, the Art Kaipara Board is thrilled to announce the appointment of Helensville resident Yvonne Abercrombie as our new Art Centre Manager.
Yvonne is an artist, teacher, and arts administrator with a solid arts background and broad experience perfectly suited to her new role in the Arts Kaipara organisation.
While studying painting at Unitec, she ran the Unitec art gallery, The Gallows, a role which included promoting and exhibiting student work, and multi-media marketing within Unitec and to the public. After gaining a BDVA (Bachelor of Design and Visual Arts) she studied for and graduated with a MDes (Master of Design), which involved researching contemporary painting and art history, presenting papers, and running workshop seminars, and assisting undergraduates in their set briefs.
After graduating Yvonne worked for Mobile Art Gallery, combining administrative duties with curating exhibitions. While continuing her own art practice, Yvonne has exhibited in group and solo shows, including as a finalist in the Molly Morpeth and NZPPA awards. Yvonne worked as a
freelance artist, gaining valuable experience teaching art classes and tutoring individuals, before her fulltime appointment in 2018 at Kumeu Arts. Working in a community arts centre proved to be Yvonne’s happy place, as she loves the opportunity to work with community artists and serve the public by providing creative outlets.
Yvonne takes up the position of Manager of Helensville Art Centre in mid-November. She has a wealth of knowledge and great ideas, and the Art Kaipara Board is looking forward to working alongside her to make our art centre the vibrant hub of our artistic community.
