‘Tis the season…again.

by Kaiya Jones, Year 13 Student, Kaipara College

Kia Ora, Reader!

‘Tis the season of misery for all high school students once again!.. If you didn’t guess its exam season, you may want to evaluate what brings you misery if it’s not the mere idea of exams… Anyway! The importance of exams is being drilled into the brains of every student, lest we forget that our future hinges on our answers to a few pieces of paper.

Kaipara College recently showed an amazing production, the great Macbeth! The team of students, made up of kids from drama and PAT (performing arts technology) classes, put on five shows in four days, and even packed up the stage on Sunday. The cast did an unbelievable job of remembering all their lines and pulled off their roles well. Making Macbeth interesting is a challenge not many dare to take on, but I think KC’s drama students did considerably well! I may be biased, but I think it’s the best rendition of Macbeth I’ve seen thus far…(I’ve seen one other show, just for context). Credit and massive thanks to Miss Dean and Sasha for the amazing photos to remember the show by!

Kaipara College is also working towards Ag Day, with planning, fund raising and more planning taking place to coordinate the event. One such fundraiser is the mufti day Friday, where kids bring a gold coin donation and are encouraged to wear ‘farming clothes’, and gumboots are a must! Ag day itself will consist of multiple displays/competitions which students can enter, such as the indoor section. The indoor section is all about crafts, cakes, and showing off your green thumb and these are all categories which students can compete in. Students can also bring in animals to parade about in a most excellent show of cuteness, which will definitely get a lot of attention and pats. Can’t forget that there will be many food stalls/trucks brought in to beat back the hunger of the roaming students and associated family/friends.

KC’s amazing librarian, Karen, has been putting on competitions in the library, which change every term. She puts out a jar with chopped up pieces of text in it and students must guess from the text that they can see what book they think it is. This has drawn many kids into the library to have a go and guess what it is, possibly winning a prize upon the reveal of the title of the book. I have not managed to guess any of them yet…Mum, Dad, if you’re reading this, I swear I read!

Hope you have a great month and look after yourself as we head into (hopefully) better weather!
