Members of the Helensville Floral Art Club had an away day on Thursday the 15th June learning about and shaping and potting up bonsai.
While visiting a property in South Head members brought along a tree suitable for bonsai with small leaves and something to plant the shaped tree in so that in true bonsai tradition it acted like a frame in a composition.
After a brief explanation about the origins history and styles of bonsai members learnt about trimming wiring and soil mixes and potted up these newly designed trees.
14 people attended and with great enthusiasm some very appealing bonsai designs were achieved.....patience care and time will see them develop into something really special.
The July meeting will be held back in the Masonic Hall in Helensville with the main theme and instruction being Leaf Manipulation using Nikau fronds and Strelitzia leaves...something really intricate and unusual.
There will also be a competition for members earlier in the day .....”Voids and Fibre” which sounds very intriguing.
New members are always welcome. We meet every third Thursday of the month (excluding January) at 10am at the Masonic Hall in Kowhai St.
