Autumn Book Fair
27th & 28th May 2017
The Lions Club of Helensville Autumn Book Fair, held on the weekend, raised just over $8,300, slightly down on last year but still an excellent result. We would like to thank all those who supported us by purchasing books, we would also like to thank all those who donated books, and without them we would have no Book Fair.
Thanks is also due to the members of the Helensville community who helped, moving over 600 boxes of books from storage to the War Memorial Hall, then unpacking and displaying them. Especially appreciated is the help given to us by members of the South Kaipara Youth group and students from Kaipara College, their strong arms and enthusiasm certainly lightened our load.
We also wish to thank the members of the Rodney Local Board who waived fees to the War Memorial Hall for the Book Fair so that all the funds raised can be used in the local community, helping those in need of assistance. We presently have an application with the Rodney Local Board for the waiver of hall fees for the next two Book Fairs and hope that they will be as generous.
All the funds raised go into the Lions Club of Helensville Charitable Trust Account and will be used within the Helensville and Kaukapakapa communities to assist those members or organisations in need of support, as well as into community projects such as the Riverside Walkway and Kaukapakapa Playground..
The books left over are re-sorted with unsaleable books going to the Helensville Recycle Centre. Other books are sold at the Lions bookstall at the Kaukapakapa Market, which is held on the third Sunday of each month. Excess children’s books are given to Oranga Tamariki for use in their children’s waiting rooms and homes.
The next Book Fair is our Christmas Book Fair, which will be held on the last weekend of November, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th 2017, in the Helensville War Memorial Hall. As a service to the community the Helensville Lions will accept books throughout the year, and can collect large lots. Smaller lots can be left at Copy & Print, Helensville, but please get them to us at least two weeks before the date of the Book Fair.
