Sorry I’ve been told to call it ‘Football’ not ‘Soccer’.
Yes, it is true that we now have ‘Football’ Fields at Rautawhiri Park, one full size and two junior fields.
‘Football’ has quietly been growing in Helensville, and one of the big success stories of this growth has been the newly created club South Kaipara FC. This was the passion project of local Trevor Hubbard, who has brought his passion for Football from the UK to Helensville and wanted to create a junior football club where he could coach kids in the sport he loves. Starting from humble beginning with after school coaching at Helesville Primary, Trevor along with his growing team of volunteers now have over 90 children signed up and are running coaching sessions twice a week. These are true volunteers, and outside of fundraising for equipment, they do all this for free.
It was this success along with a growing amateur adults club, which led to the discussions around getting dedicated Football Fields at Rautawhiri Park. Prior to this, children had to travel far out of town to find a Football Field and this put real restrictions on those wanting to participate in the sport.
Big Thanks to our Parks and Facilities team for their time and for getting these fields painted so quickly following our community meeting. These fields are free for everyone to use (outside of coaching times) so please make the most of them.
If you would like to know more about South Kaipara FC, please look them up on Facebook.
