Art Centre Helensville

‘Philocaly’a love of beauty even in the smallest things.

An exhibition of tiny works, 28th February – 22nd March, opening night 28th 5-7pm

As we enter into a new month, a change in season the Art Centre is exhibiting a ‘change of scene (ary).’ Our part-timer and kid’s afterschool teacher, Kiri Abraham has developed our entrance gardens using a sustainability grant thanks to Auckland Council, to better equip the Art Centre with sustainable waste management and environmentally focused outdoor projects. We are proud to see this come to fruition with lush greens and vibrant flowers and bees. Come view before we move onto the next step!

Our March exhibition ‘Philocaly’ represents what we appreciate in our community, our space and within our classes. Small growth, small works, small changes, all exhibited as delicately beautiful. A group of artists will be showing a series of ‘small’ pieces that are responsive to an intimate meaning, in addition our kids and youth classes have worked on unique projects that will be included in the show. A ‘Tiny Winy’ workshop produced stunning works from members of our region which has made for a collective array of miniature art.

A return of Jo Dixey! Local stitch hero, international and national artist and past server to the Helensville community, now residing in Wellington is making a guest appearance in our ‘Philocaly’ show. Don’t miss seeing her work in this show! Join with us at the opening night, Friday 28th February 5-7pm.

Gas Bag’ continues this year every Wednesday 11-1pm in our library room. This is open for anyone who would like to have a space to work on their creative practice while joining in lively and friendly conversations. The group is led by volunteer Eileen Harper who always brings joyful banter and fun crafts to the group!

Watch this space! – Our outdoor project is on the move. With a sneak-peak at what we are doing, ceramic tiles are being produced by our wonderful tamariki at Helensville Primary school which will then be displayed at the entrance to the Art Centre. Tutor’s Kiri Abraham and ceramicist Kristen Calder will be working in the school on this project, we can’t wait to see the creative outcome! We thank Everykid grant for making this possible that kids in our area can take pride in their art being featured in the centre of town.
