Averil Chandler
(January 1972 – July 2018)
Our community was shocked and saddened by the recent untimely death of much-loved 46-year-old Shelly Beach resident, Averil Chandler.
Averil, who had been diagnosed with MS, was remembered at her funeral as a larger-than-life, hugely popular person, loyal, staunch and with a heart of gold. Mourners spoke of her as an avid reader with an impressive command of the English language, a royal family fanatic who liked to jokingly fantasize about her links to royalty, a keen fisher and gardener and an enthusiast always looking for the next project to sink her teeth into.
As a Helensville WINZ Case Manager, Averil was a caring professional, touching many lives over the years through her work. As solo mother for ten years of her three sons, Averil faced her challenges with unwavering strength. Her family, both nuclear and extended, and her friends, were very important to her. Images shown of her pirate-themed wedding to Ben Chandler in 2016 captured her great sense of fun and her determination to always ‘keep it real’. She was thrilled that her new family included Ben’s two daughters.
Averil is survived by her mother Joan, husband Ben, sons Joel, Jared and Jayden and step-daughters Rebekah and Morgan.
