Rodney Beekeepers Club, which was established in Helensville in 2014, has, for the second time, run a Community Colouring Competition in September to highlight NZ’s Bee Awareness Month. Photos can be seen on the “Our Blog” page of our website rodneybeekeepersclub.co.nz.
Bees are a very humble yet vital part of our ecosystem. Our club meets monthly to support, encourage, educate and network with hobbyist beekeepers in the Kaipara/Rodney region. In recent years Honey and Bees New Zealand (formerly Apiculture New Zealand - ApiNZ) launched the annual September celebration of Bee Awareness Month.
The club appreciates the assistance with distribution of entry forms by Helensville Primary School, Woodhill School, Parakai School, Helensville Library, Helensville Art Centre and Kaipara Coast Plant Centre.
From the 92 entries our bee club received, 16 prizes were awarded - 4 for each of 4 categories. At the club’s October meeting on 7 October the excited winners were awarded their prizes. The prize-winners were as follows
Our thanks go to everyone who entered the competition. And may the colour of all local gardens keep attracting the real bees as they work their magic for us.
