Expressionist Artist – Thomas Hogan

An exhibition of works by Thomas Hogan will be in the library room at the Helensville Art Centre from August 7th-31st.

But, this will be an exhibition with a difference as the viewer is invited to re-hang any of the works in order to view them from their chosen perspective. Thus the exhibition is entitled ‘Perspective’.

The concept came from artist Pauline Denton as so many of Thomas’ words are on square canvases, allowing for them to be hung in up to 8 directions, including squares or diamonds. As the canvases have no real ‘top’s’, then it seemed logical to let visitors to the exhibition choose which way up they wanted the paintings to be.

Pauline works for two hours each week with Thomas, during which he goes into a very meditative state as he paints. This is a part of the Arts & Activities Programme run by L’Arche Mount Tabor, many of such sessions are open to those from outside of the Trust, including a weekly disco, drama, art and craft sessions and an afternoon of table top games.
