Focus On – Shades Hair and Beauty

Thanks to a recent makeover, Shades Hair and Beauty Salon in Commercial Road has a fresh new look. Karina Goodwin, who has owned the business for seven years, says feedback has already been positive, with people enjoying the new colour scheme and the addition of a lounge area and a beauty room. There have also been many compliments about the revived exterior of the salon’s historic Art Deco building, now painted a stylish plum colour.
Karina did her hairdressing training on Australia’s Gold Coast, while Holly Charman, the salon’s other hairdresser, trained at Premier Hairdressing College. They are joined by beauty therapist Sharlene Clarke, who trained at the International College of Camille and who takes care of waxing, tinting, eye packages and facials. The range of products they carry includes Angel, Fudge, Joyco and Keratin.
Living and raising their children locally gives the experienced staff a good understanding of the community. They all love meeting people and helping to make them feel good about themselves and it’s important to them that their prices are competitive. They’re proud of catering for the whole family – men, women and children - and of the fact that so many of their clients, some from out of town, are regular customers Pensioners are encouraged to come on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to take advantage of the special rates they’re offered on those days.
“Come on in, relax the mind, renew the body, revive the soul.”
