Happy New Year!
It’s that time of year again! In the next few weeks, I’ll be attending the A&H show in Kumeu and the A&P shows in Helensville and Warkworth, which are all within the large area that I represent, known as the “Kaipara ki Mahurangi” electorate.
Take the upcoming Helensville Show, for example, a cherished institution that plays a pivotal role in this community here in northwest Auckland.
This year is the 121st Helensville Show, more that a century-old annual event, the Show is not just a fun-filled day out for families (including visitors from across Auckland), it’s a true reflection of the values that make this region so special.
For decades, the Helensville Show has showcased the very best of our agricultural and rural heritage. To this day, it provides an opportunity for local farmers, producers, and artisans to display their hard work and craftsmanship, while also connecting with the wider community. In a rapidly urbanising area, events like the Helensville Show help remind us of the rich history that has shaped this region.
Importantly, as NZ slowly gets back on track economically, there will be many small businesses looking to trade well for a couple of days, at all these A&P Shows, following a slow summer in more than a few cases.
The Shows offer fun for all the family, whether exciting entertainment, delicious local food, or a chance to shop at the stalls featuring some of the best home-grown products in the country.
It’s also the perfect place to reconnect with friends and neighbours while supporting local businesses. On that note, please consider sharing content on your social media channels about the Shows to encourage others to attend as well!
As we look to the future, it’s essential that we continue to nurture and protect events like the Helensville Show. They are vital not only for preserving our cultural heritage but also for ensuring that northwest Auckland remains a vibrant, connected, and thriving community.
See you there!
