Helensville Athletic Club now closes off another successful season, seeing children of the wider Kaipara area for social and competitive athletics gaining a membership base of 175 athletes aged 2 to 13 years that participated weekly at the local sports grounds in activities like shot put, discus, high jump, long jump and track events.
It has been very rewarding to see the children learning new skills, or challenging themselves. During our club competition evenings where athletes compete in their age groups for points and have the opportunity to achieve and record official club records a number of these records were broken in several age groups. Regardless of the level of performance the environment encourages children to remain active and to take part. Every one that finishes or tries is a winner.
As an amateur cub we rely on the support of parent helpers to assist and marshal events or just usher age groups throughout the season. Thank you to all that volunteered time week after week.
I would like to acknowledge the support, commitment and passion of Myra Lloyd whom has been “The Coach” for the Club for number of years. Myra has brought vision to the children allowing them to gain the necessary skills in order for them all to achieve their own personal bests.
We look forward to an exciting, action filled and record breaking 2017/2018 season.
