The Helensville Bowling Club is seen as consistently “punching above their weight” for a small country club.
In the North Harbour Centre, each winner of the Club 1-5 singles champions went on to contest the prize of Champ of Champs 1-5 Women’s Singles. Helensville’s Jeni Hart confirmed her immense promise with a win in the women’s 1-5 year Champion of Champion singles, beating Browns Bay’s Jo Wyatt 21-10 in the final. Jeni won her semi-final from Maxe Janssen (Belmont Park) 21-12.
Jeni was also part of the Junior Interclub team comprising Fred Pereeti, Maggie Kay, Brendon McPhail and Chris O’Sullivan winning their North Harbour title, then going on to try and get a back to back win of the Mercedes Cup that Helensville won last year, when it was contested in Kamo. Unfortunately, Helensville couldn’t make it two in a row missing out by only two match points.
Helensville also took out the Men’s 4’s Centre Title for North Harbour with their team comprising Bart Robertson, Ricky Howe, Ron Cowper and Carlson Barnett. Ron Cowper gained his 12th centre title at age 83 and is currently the Patron of the Helensville Bowling Club.

Carlson Barnett won the prestigious Men’s Supreme Player of the Year Award at the Bowls North Harbour prizegiving in June and came runner up with Sue Hart in the mixed 2/4/2 pairs.
Carlson Barnett and Bart Robertson are representative players for bowls North Harbour Premier Men’s Squad, Sharon Parker is a representative player in the Women’s Developmental Squad, while Jeni Hart and Brendon McPhail both play in the Women’s and Mens 1-5 squads respectively.
