Kaka sightings in Helensville

Several people in Helensville and surrounding areas are reporting seeing kaka in the area. The beautiful bird is a native forest-dwelling parrot whose survival is threatened due to mammalian predators like the stoat and the bush-tailed possum and to forest clearance.
While they’re a common sight in Wellington city, having spread from Zealandia / Karori Sanctuary, there are few sites where they regularly seen in Auckland.
The bird pictured regularly visits the Sparrow family in Kowhai St, giving daughter Isabel (13) the chance to practice her photography skills.
