Trains to Huapai:
- Rail infrastructure already exists (below photo is of existing platform at Huapai);
- Private investor prepared to supply service for 5 years at no cost to rate payers;
- User friendly to elderly, disabled, push chairs i.e. level embarking;
- Could be up and running in short time frame compared to other options;
- Does not remove important permeable ground in the flood plain or increase pollution to Kumeu river;
- Capacity to carry more passengers not using road corridor, taking traffic off road;
- We don’t have a college in the area, it would open up options for students: Henderson High, Waitakere college, Liston College, Avondale College, Mt. Albert Grammer, Marist and many others close to train stations;
- Access to the airport by train and to and from the many big events held at Kumeu Show grounds. Other shopping areas: New Lynn, Henderson, St. Lukes.
Bus corridor (referred to as rapid transit corridor):
- Poor and negligent urban design, removes permeable ground in flood plain, amenity trees, public green space turning it into non permeable tarseal;
- Increased flooding and pollution to nearby Kumeu River;
- Costly to rate payers, a large amount of land would need to be purchased, consultants, designers, report writers, flood modellers etc. creating documents that may not even be based on reality, then construction costs, road cones, traffic management costs;
- 10-30 years away;
- Buses are harder for mobility impaired to board due to steps;
- Businesses and homes would be destroyed in costly land buy up and probably be contested dragging it out further;
- Huge and drawn out disruption to existing businesses and motorists when construction finally does begin.
