Members of the Helensville Floral Art Club enjoyed a creative and inspiring workshop on Thursday 18 June at the Helensville Masonic Hall on Kowhai Street.
Ten members attended the session, which was led by guest tutor Peggy Haysom from the Hibiscus Floral Art Club. Participants arrived armed with an unusual collection of materials, including 25 claddies (flax sticks), sandpaper, black nuggets, PVA glue, sharp scissors, a polystyrene ball, a spike painted black, and cable ties.
As is often the case with Floral Art workshops, the excitement lies in not knowing exactly what the finished design will look like until the tutor begins demonstrating the techniques. Members carefully prepared their flax sticks by cutting them into 50cm lengths before twisting, shaping, and assembling them into striking contemporary arrangements.
The results were impressive, with every creation reflecting the individual style and creativity of its maker. Although all members followed the same instructions, not one design was exactly the same.
The workshop was a wonderful opportunity to learn new skills, share ideas, and enjoy the company of fellow floral art enthusiasts. A great day was had by all.
New members are always welcome. The Helensville Floral Art Club meets on the third Thursday of every month at the Helensville Masonic Hall, Kowhai Street. Whether you are an experienced floral artist or simply interested in learning more about the art of floral design, come along and join this friendly and creative group.
