One of the major concerns keeping me awake at night is that the Next Rodney Local Board will most likely become the Road Controlling Authority for the area and have the responsibility of allocating the budgets for road maintenance and repairs. This responsibility has the potential to become a burden considering we have such extreme deficits of maintenance in the Rodney Local Board area and will take some seriously clever thinking to finally catch up on the overdue maintenance.
The biggest risk in my mind is that even if money is allocated fairly amongst the local boards, there might not be consideration of the historic deficits and lack of basic maintenance work which has happened over the last decade. The plan is to take away decision making authority from Auckland Transport and it is a very likely outcome that the local boards will become Road Controlling Authorities.
I sit in opposition to the political party who currently have 5 out of the 9 seats. And if the next Rodney Local Board is majority lead by a political group who disagree with the requirement to maintain the roads we could be in real trouble.
Are you a community leader? Do you think you could stand in the face of bureaucracy and represent the people of Rodney? Can you make tough decisions? Are in you touch with the communities needs and wants? Maybe you should stand in this election. Please reach out anytime if you want to know what’s involved my number is 02102410569. Geoff Upson.
